Absolute Beginners: Newbie Filmmakers 4-Part Workshop Series
June 18, 2016 - June 26, 2016
$175 – $225Ever wanted to learn about filmmaking with a group of likewise enthusiastic but inexperienced folks? Absolute Beginners is a perfect place to learn the basics about filmmaking in a supportive educational atmosphere from an experienced filmmaker. This workshop will be delivered over two weekends.
Day One we will be learning about film set terminology, set roles, and some safety. Then we will break out the sound gear and learn about where to point a mic or pin a lavaliere to record dialogue.
Day Two is “Lights, Camera, Action!” We start by learning the basics about lighting techniques, and then break out a lighting kit. Then we focus on cameras with some theory and hands-on work.
Day Three we reconvene to talk about how to produce and direct a small project. We will look at production design, scheduling, script breakdown, story boarding and shot lists. A local actor will come in for the last hour for a discussion about the craft of acting and how directors can assist with performance. One-scene scripts will be distributed for homework to implement the concepts learned that day.
Day Four is “Game Day.” It all comes together as we use sound, lighting, and camera to shoot a small scene with two actors. We will swap roles so that everyone gets to try a variety of different areas. A final edit will be posted for the class to view their work.
