2020 Year in Review

How The Grinch Stole Film Festivus…

Well folks, we’re sorry to say that the Film Festivus screening event is canceled this year due to lack of submissions and, well, everything else that’s going on.

😷

But now is not the time for sadness or despair — let us rejoice! Despite the pandemic, CineVic had quite the notable year:

📣

In the early days of lockdown we were one of the first to pioneer a new online film festival format, pivoting Short Circuit to a global audience and record viewership. In July we crowned our fourth CINE⚡SPARK winner via Zoom. Workshops were also moved online, along with our AGM, monthly social, and final sessions of The Incubators mentorship program.

🎥

We added some sweet new gear, and demand for equipment rentals remained busy through summer and fall. Kudos to those who forged ahead with film production under new safety protocols and difficult circumstances.

🛠️

We used the office closure as an opportunity to upgrade cleaning and sanitization facilities, expand equipment storage, and allow for physical distancing when the doors re-open in 2021.

👏

A big thank you to all the CineVic members, filmmakers, audiences, and collaborators who stuck with us, as well as our funders who helped us weather the storm by enabling us to continue serving our local community of artists.

🗓️

Please note that staff will be on holidays and equipment rentals will be unavailable from December 18th to January 5th. Scroll down for info on two get-togethers in January, and plenty of new submission deadlines and resources to keep you busy in the coming weeks.

🎬

Keep your chin up and your eyes on our channels — we’re planning some exciting things and can’t wait to tell you about them in the new year!
