PARTICIPANT INFO:
This is an open call for YOU to participate. Discover the nostalgia, creativity, and joy of celluloid film by making your own 3-minute Super 8 movie. No experience necessary! Only 25 spots available, and registration is first-come first-serve. Spots WILL fill up quickly!
Registration includes: One black and white Super 8 film cartridge, Super 8 camera rental, workshop, film processing and digital scan, screening fee, and a ticket to the screening event on April 5th.
What does “one-take” mean?
• No editing and no re-takes.
• You may choose to film your movie in one continuous shot, or plan to shoot scene-by-scene in proper order, or simply create a collage of images.
• Super 8 film does not record sound. You may choose to separately create a digital soundtrack (but note that it might not play in perfect sync with your images). Silent films are okay too!
• No peeking – you will see your finished film for the first time along with the audience at a community screening!
Check out a few examples from past events:
• Hat Trick by Kayla Jeanson
• Attic Playroom by Gerald Saul
• 45 by Charles-André Coderre
• Goths! On the Bus! by Karen & Jaimz Asmundson
FREE Super 8 workshop!
Participants are encouraged (but not required) to attend a free workshop on February 2nd to learn the ins and outs of Super 8 film and cameras, as well as tips and tricks to stage your one-take production. Camera bookings are available on a first-come first-serve basis. Cameras may also be rented or borrowed from elsewhere, or dig your own out of that box in the basement! This event is a not only a fun way to test the creativity of indie filmmakers, but is also a great way for beginners to try out analogue film and show your work in front of an audience!
